Join a world-class engineering team helping shape the future of complex naval platforms. We’re looking for an experienced and motivated HVAC Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in developing advanced Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for high-performance maritime environments.

You’ll be paid a high hourly rate and work on technically fascinating and mission-critical systems, contributing to design solutions that support the safety, efficiency, and operability of some of the most advanced warships in the world.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Apply your HVAC expertise to solve complex mechanical design challenges across all phases of the shipbuilding lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development and assurance of HVAC architectures, ensuring designs are technically sound and operationally safe.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and internal stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose HVAC systems.
  • Support continuous improvement by shaping engineering processes, tools, and standards.
  • Conduct technical investigations and analyses, recommending innovative and practical solutions.
  • Influence overall warship design by understanding HVAC’s impact on survivability, acoustic performance, maintainability, and more.
  • Prepare detailed specifications and design appraisals aligned with strict quality and safety requirements.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers within the team.
  • Act as a key technical contact for customers and suppliers in your area of responsibility.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Ideally degree-qualified in engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably within defence, marine, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Strong technical knowledge of marine HVAC systems and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Experience in the design, build, integration, and operation of naval vessels.
  • Awareness of lifecycle engineering, design-for-support, and build strategies.
  • Familiarity with engineering governance, standards, and risk-based design decision-making.
  • A collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Why Join Us?

  • Work on unique, large-scale naval programmes with long-term impact.
  • Be part of a collaborative, highly skilled engineering team pushing the boundaries of maritime technology.
  • Access professional development support, mentoring, and opportunities to grow into senior engineering or leadership roles.
  • Contribute to projects that support national defence and global security.

Whether you're a seasoned HVAC design specialist or transitioning from another complex engineering domain with relevant experience, I would love to hear from you.
