The Opportunity:
A global leader in space and satellite solutions, specialising in SATCOM, Earth observation, navigation, and defence applications, seeks an influential Space Segment Verification Lead to support the MoD’s SKYNET 6 Programme ahead of its 2026 launch.
Role Overview:
- You will serve as an expert advisor for the Skynet 6A military satellite, ensuring the satellite’s hardware, firmware, and digital systems meet the highest standards of quality and performance.
- While you won’t be directly involved in building the satellite, your role will focus on evaluating and verifying the supplier’s work to ensure everything aligns with the project’s mission-critical requirements.
Responsibilities
- Space Segment Verification – Ensure the satellite’s hardware meets technical requirements and passes rigorous testing phases.
- Firmware & DSP Evaluation – Review and assess digital electronics, including FPGAs and signal processing technologies, ensuring flawless communication systems.
- Monitor Supplier Progress – Track supplier performance, identify potential issues early, and provide independent evaluations.
- Analyse Risks & Recommend Solutions – Report risks to the client, recommending corrective actions to resolve technical challenges and keep the project on track.
- Ensure Documentation & Testing Compliance – Ensure all documentation and testing procedures are complete and accurate to meet project standards.
Key Requirements
- Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance (British National).
- Travel Flexibility: Able to travel 1 day per week, including overnight stays to sites across Corsham, Harwell, and Portsmouth. All travel expenses covered.
- Strong background in satellite hardware and communication systems, with experience in military or commercial space programmes.
- Experience in digital electronics, particularly DSP, FPGA development, and related technologies.
- Proven experience in system verification, ensuring compliance with performance, security, and technical requirements.
- Ability to manage suppliers, track progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Experience working with internal teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders, including government clients, to communicate technical progress effectively.
- Proficient in preparing, reviewing, and validating technical documentation for compliance with standards and regulations.
