Job Requirements
A Mechanical Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in the Aerospace and Defence industry. Oversee the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and products. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team. Develop and implement engineering processes and procedures. At Quest Global, we are seeking a highly experienced engineer to join our team.
As a Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for supervising engineering teams, establishing project goals and timelines, managing design processes, conducting risk assessments, coordinating with team members, partners, and clients, ensuring regulatory compliance, implementing technical standards, finding solutions for technical issues, and providing expert advice: offering technical advice on mechanical systems to managers and staff.
Work Experience
Key Responsibilities:
- An engineering manager’s operational responsibilities involve overseeing engineering projects and teams, helping strategize, design, and manage projects at every stage, ensuring that the projects are completed efficiently, correctly, and on schedule.
- Oversee delivery of all projects to customers, ensuring delivery to time, cost, and quality parameters.
- Responsible for managing and completing the mechanical engineering and design within budget and planning. This includes change control and consistency of the mechanical engineering and design with other disciplines.
- Client-facing responsibilities to manage client expectations in relation to project scope.
- Participate in internal and external design reviews and be responsible for design acceptance by the client.
- Make independent decisions on issues, providing expert technical support within Mechanical Engineering.
- Lead projects in a multi-discipline environment and coordinate all mechanical engineering and design with other disciplines, including process, transmission systems, gears, gearboxes, and marine engineering.
- Effectively carry out, check, and approve engineering and design estimates, control, and report all costs on allocated projects in terms of progress, scope change, and man-hours.
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
- Design proficiency in transformation systems, gears, gearboxes, and/or marine engineering.
- Experience with the production of mechanical specifications, scopes of work, calculations, drawings, and schedules.
- Familiarity with main design packages including Solid Edge, Siemens NX, AutoCAD, etc.
- Result-oriented approach; satisfaction comes from delivering top quality and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Ability to delegate to your team while maintaining oversight of mechanical discipline and intervening when necessary.
- Implement a solid change control procedure for your team and effectively communicate budget and planning consequences of changes to clients.
- Lead and motivate your team to achieve targets, even in the face of setbacks.
- Ability to chair design review meetings.
- Passion for teaching and coaching the next generation of mechanical engineers and designers.
Requirements
– Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
– Previous experience in a similar role within the Aerospace and Defence industry.
– Experience in heavy engineering industry, power transmission systems, gears, and gearboxes.
– Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
– Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.
– Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
– Detail-oriented with a strong focus on team, quality, and continuous improvement.
– Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
